Immersive Experience

Typically, organisational strategy is expressed in verbose documents that are distributed physically and digitally. In 2019 the largest humanitarian organisation, the International Federation of the Red Cross approached us to explore new ways of communicating policy and strategy to its delegates.

We present “Escape to the Future”, a digitally immersive escape room game for humanitarian strategy. Teams were teleported into the 5 key thematic areas, to enact 7 global transformations conveying topics on health, crisis and disasters, migration and identity, values and climate change.

Delegates were immersed in 360 degree projections with surround sound and given 30 minutes to complete challenges to help prevent the IFRC from falling into irrelevance.

Each challenge comprised of clues, puzzles and physical artefacts that needed to be solved through strong team communication. Implicit and explicit messaging allowed delegates to take control of their own destiny and make decisions that affected the future of the IFRC. Over the course of the General Assembly 311 delegates from 67 national societies.
