Clearing up the signal

The Hawk-Eye EDGE-SENSE integrated an sensor embedded within cricket bats to enable professional level snick detection for umpires in the amateur game. Real-time sensor data streaming and playback for review.

We embedded an OpenMovement WAX9 sensor on the back of the bat connected to an iPad positioned near the umpire. The raw signal data is streamed over Bluetooth the the iPad when required by the umpire they can review the incident in slow motion using the iPad camera along side the synchronised sensor data from the bat. This data could also be integrated into professional broadcasts as it is sent to Hawk-Eye’s Smart production system.

This work has been showcased in articles for the Times newspaper and Sky Sports News.
